Andy Andrews Biography
Andy Andrews is a most influential American writer and lecturer that is famous worldwide.
Andrews’ most sold work, The Traveler’s Gift: Seven Decisions that Determine Personal Success, is a global sensation, and a significant presence on the New York Times bestseller list that has been translated into nearly twenty languages.
Andrews experienced a relatively ordinary life until nineteen years old when his parents died – his mother from cancer and his father in a car collision.
Andy took bad choices and made the situation worse. In the next years, the young Andrews found himself homeless, occasionally sleeping under a pier on the gulf shore or in somebody’s garage.
It was at those times that the young outsider summoned the question that would concentrate his quest for what would finally change millions of lives.
“Is life just a lottery ticket, or are there decisions one can make to direct his fate?”
He went to a library and read countless biographies of great people in history. How had they grown up to be the personalities they matured? Were they just born that way, or were there decisions made at critical crossroads in their lives that drove to such success?
Andrews came up with a theory based on seven topics that of them had in common.
“What will happen,’ he meditated, ‘if I analyze these seven common denominators and control them in my life?”
The Seven Decisions, as he named them, were the turbines that Andrews used to shift his life to another direction. And over 20 years later, these same principles became the frame around which he constructed the basis for The Traveler’s Gift and his PBS Special.
Since then, a list of books have been a paramount of his ever growing career:
- The Traveler’s Gift
- Mastering the Seven Decisions
- The Noticer.
- Return to Sawyerton Springs
- The Heart Mender
- The Butterfly Effect
- The Boy Who Changed the World
- How Do You Kill 11 Million People? Why The Truth Matters More Than You Think
- The Lost Choice
- The Noticer Returns: Sometimes You Find Perspective, and Sometimes Perspective Finds You
- The Final Summit: A Quest to Find the One Principle That Will Save Humanity
- The Young Traveler’s Gift
- The Seven Decisions: Understanding the Keys to Personal Success
- The Wisdom Seeds: Sometimes Perspective Finds You
- Socks for Christmas
- The Traveler’s Gift Journal
- and several others
Andrews’ personal moving story drive his life and helps him connect with his audience through the heart – an unusual way compared to the media-driven world of today.
The idea that there is no other person better at sewing mental, life-moving teachings into gripping adventurous stories of intrigue, both on paper and stage, is debatable.

I always enjoy reading biographies.
I would be interested to know more of how he managed to create life his life from being homeless in such a young age. I guess that’s in the book you recommended? I’m always inspired of people who reached a lot in their lives.
Great review, looking forward to see more.
Hello, Jolita,
Thank you for sharing your support.

I always love reading up on things like this. I’ve had a similar story after my father passing away. Going from riches to rags, resorting to drugs, destroying my health, and completely broke. End result, 4 surgeries and 2 blood transfusions. Finally got my self out of the whole and on to better things. I’ve always have a keen eye for stories like this.

Its always great and inspiring to see a success story. Especially one that was built from the ground up. His initial theory on decisions that was made by successful individuals are extremely interesting. And I am almost convinced that his success can be ascribed to the research and work that was done based on his discovery. Thanks for bringing this biography in your book review blog. Nice to learn something new about such great people.

Can you go into a little more detail of, or give the main points of what his 7 Decisions are?

Hello, Joe,
Thanks for the kind words and sharing your opinion. Cheers!
It is always inspiring to read about someone whom has been through hardship to get where they are today.
It kind of pushes us, average-wagers to try something better in life and break through the vicious cycle one day.
Maybe it’s because he had a tough life since 19, when the tragedy happened and changed him to what he is today.
