Born in San Angelo, TX, on January 11, 1955, Max Lucado was the youngest of four children to Thelma and Jack Lucado. He was brought up in Andrews, TX. His father was an oil operator and his mother, a nurse.
Lucado attended Abilene Christian University to graduate in a Bible degree. After finishing college, Lucado moved to Miami, Florida, to work as a minister to a church where, among other responsibilities, he wrote a newsletter. Their compilation, later became, his first book, On the Anvil.
Later on, Lucado and his newly-wed wife, Denalyn, moved to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to become full-time missionaries.
Five years later, they came back to the United States to be closer to his widowed mother and work at the Oak Hills Church of Christ in San Antonio.
As an author, Lucado has reached millions with his mark storytelling style, granting him numerous awards and honors following most of his works. He has been a finalist in the ECPA Gold Medallion with further decorations than any other writer in the business.
In 1994, he became the single author to have 11 of his twelve titles simultaneously in print and figure on paperback, hardcover and children’s CBA bestseller lists. This way, setting new standards for the publishing scenario.
Adding to his nonfiction books, Lucado has written several award-winning successful children’s titles. He is also the creator of Hermie, the Caterpillar.
For over the past twenty years, Max has served as the Senior Pastor in San Antonio, but he states his greatest realization was finding a one-in-a-million wife and having three unbelievable daughters: Jenna, Andrea, and Sara.

More content on some other titles, would be great as some pages have little content available. Diet and nutrition would be an area that I would like to see.

That’s is an excellent idea and in fact it is on our to-do list, but not for for now. We are still in the laborious process of concentrating our efforts in transferring and adapting the old blog’s posts to this new website. Some new posts are being written to follow our new fiction analysis approach. Nevertheless, we do want to fill up our health (and future diet) category with exciting stuff for people on your line of interest.

Thank you for the Bio. Before I read this, I had no idea who Max Lucado was, and now I want to know more about him. In particular, why he chose to become and author. Does it have a connection to the time he lived in Rio de Janerio? Would you be able to answer that question? As I’ve always found it fascinating why a writer started writing. For some reason this kinf of information stimulates me to read an author’s book.

I have read that he started writing due to an innate passion that was triggered by his father’s death just after the period he lived in Brazil. It seems that all three influenced it.

I have read a couple of Max Lucado’s books and love his work but never knew much about his background. It sounds like he’s had an interesting life, especially living in a different country. I’m sure this all adds to his experience as an author. It’s amazing that he’s had 11 of 12 books in print at the same time. He is indeed a prolific author. Thanks for an interesting review.

I’m from Portuguese and Italian descent and have always thought that Lucado souns like Italian.
“Lucado, leave the gun! Take cannoli!” if you know what I mean. 😛
On the serious side of it, I suppose you’re probably right since he is from San Angelo, TX. However, that’s not much and I have not found anything about it after researching, One thing looks very probable: His father’s family seems to be Latin, but that is just a guess.
